Originally used by Jimi on tour in Europe during 1967 and 1968, the hand-painted 1967 Flying V is a mythical instrument, meticulously recreated by Gibson's Custom Shop with materials that reproduce the same depth and texture as Jimi's original. But this is a Gibson Custom guitar, so the materials and hardware are faithful reproductions of the original, ensuring an instrument with unsurpassed playability and classic tone.

 

The custom paint job on his Flying V is often described as a "psychedelic flower" design, or the "Love Drops" design. The guitar's vivid colors and bold patterns reflect both the psychedelic era of the late 1960s and Hendrix's own unique style.

Aside from its striking appearance, the guitar is also notable for its sound. With a mahogany body and neck, a rosewood fretboard, and two humbucking pickups the rest of the ‘unique Hendrix sound’ came as he flipped the guitar upside down and restrung it giving it power and attack not seen in any other guitar models of the era.

Hendrix used the guitar extensively during his performances from 1967 to 1969, especially during his concerts in Europe. After his death, the guitar went through various hands before being sold at auction. It is considered one of the most valuable pieces of rock and roll memorabilia.
