The Beginning
George Lowden built his first guitar in 1974, driven by a desire to create something that felt different — something with character and soul. From a small workshop in Northern Ireland, he developed his own designs and construction techniques, shaping the unique voice that defines every Lowden to this day.
His now-famous A-frame bracing and carefully considered body shapes laid the foundation for a new kind of guitar, one that didn’t imitate, but innovated.
Design
Lowden guitars are not mass-produced. They are crafted with intention — every curve, joint, and finish is designed to serve both the sound and the player.
What sets them apart is a commitment to authenticity in design. No unnecessary decorations. No shortcuts. Only the kind of understated elegance that speaks to those who appreciate true craftsmanship.
At Art of Guitar, we offer the full design spectrum, from sleek Original Series models to the intricate, luxurious 50 Series.

Voicing
Voicing is the heart of the Lowden sound. Through careful hand-carving and shaping, each guitar is uniquely brought to life.
This stage is more than just construction — it's about discovering the tone hidden within the wood. Each top is fine-tuned to respond with depth, clarity, and resonance. No two Lowdens are the same, and that’s exactly the point.
Tonewoods
Lowden guitars are known for their exceptional wood selection. Whether it’s master-grade sinker redwood, figured koa, or African Blackwood, each piece is chosen with intention — not just for its beauty, but for how it will sound, mature, and inspire.
Our selection at Art of Guitar spans a wide range of tonewood combinations, giving players access to woods rarely seen outside of boutique builds.
Craftsmanship
There are over one hundred precise steps in the making of every Lowden — each done by hand, each rooted in care.
From carving the neck to applying the oil finish, this is a process of patience, tradition, and perfectionism. Many of our guitars, including George Lowden’s personal Master Series builds, reflect this at the highest level.

Passion
It began back in 1974 with a simple but inspired idea:
“To try to create the best acoustic guitar that could possibly be made.”
When George told his father he was going to make guitars for a living, his dad’s response was clear and powerful:
“Well, just make sure they are good.”

That moment sparked a lifetime of dedication — not just to building guitars, but to building instruments with soul. At Art of Guitar, we carry that same spirit, offering guitars that are more than just tools — they’re crafted to inspire.
