Nik Huber
From the small German town of Rodgau, Nik Huber has built a worldwide reputation as one of the most revered and important guitar builders working today. Over almost 30 years, he’s gone from a solo luthier working out of the woodshop in his father’s basement to making instruments with his highly skilled and experienced team for some of the biggest musicians in the world, including Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Michael League (Snarky Puppy), Tenacious D, Billy Talent, Bernie Marsden, Kvelertak, Funeral For A Friend, Silverstein and many more.

Nik Huber Guitars
The reputation of Nik Huber Guitars is today firmly cemented as a step above in the world of high-end instruments; it’s a name synonymous with impeccable craftsmanship, the highest possible quality, sensational high-end appointments, and road-ready guitars sought after by the world’s greatest guitarists and enthusiastic collectors alike.
Though not coming from a musical hub, there was some precedent to Nik’s becoming a guitar builder. As well as having spent time as a gigging and touring guitarist, he grew up as the fourth generation of woodworkers in his family. As he puts it: “In some ways, I have woodworking in my genes”.

Bolstered by a knowledge of woodworking that many aren’t lucky enough to have at such a young age, Nik nevertheless began his guitarmaking journey as many do: learning at guitar schools, from books, and through gaining his own experience building instruments, just as his father had done in his spare time. He attended guitar shows and was one of the first ‘boutique’ builders in the world to exhibit at these events, investing all he had into getting his guitars out there to the public.
Musikmesse in 1994
But the big step up in his journey came when he snuck his way backstage at a concert at Frankfurt Musikmesse in 1994 to show his guitars to Paul Reed Smith. Smith was impressed by what he saw, but he was also characteristically frank – Nik stayed up all night implementing the direct feedback on how to make his guitars better. Equally impressed by the young German luthier’s determination and skill, Smith offered guidance and mentorship to Nik as he developed. “I learnt quickly in that period what really makes a great guitar great,” remembers Nik.

Branching out on his own and developing his company himself, Nik very quickly went on to impress guitar players just as he had Smith. It wasn’t long before this included some of the top players in the world, and even in the early days of Nik Huber Guitars, his instruments could be spotted onstage in the hands of some of the best guitarists in Europe and beyond. It wasn’t long before major US artists were getting in touch and Nik Huber instruments were accompanying artists on worldwide stadium tours.
The story of Nik Huber Guitars from that time until the present day is one of growth – not necessarily in terms of numbers, though the order books continue to be full years in advance and Nik’s highly skilled team has got bigger. The growth comes in terms of a luthier reaching the full bounds of his potential and a brand growing its reputation year after year as the very pinnacle of instrument making.
‘‘ The mission is to always build a better guitar – to try and make each guitar better than the last. Our mantra is ‘better, better, better’ not ‘more, more, more ’’
- Nik Huber -

The range of instruments now on offer is part of that; from the warm and jazz-inclined semi-hollow Rietbergen to the offset-charm-filled Piet and the modern rock ‘n’ roll classic that is the Krautster, Nik Huber Guitars offer something for players of all tastes. It makes sense when you look at their expanding artist roster, which spans from punk to hip hop and from black metal to blues.
It’s reflected in the specs and custom options too, of course. In some circles, Nik is well known for creating pieces of playable art, pairing his enviable and sometimes unbelievable selection of exotic woods with his sophisticated designs to create instruments that would almost be too stunning to play, if only they didn’t sound so incredible. In other circles, he’s known as the go-to guy for making the most reliable, tour-ready, pro-level guitars for musicians that seriously put their gear through its paces and will settle for nothing less than the best.
Talk to people familiar with Nik Huber’s work, and you’ll learn reason after reason why he’s often considered the preeminent ‘boutique’ builder of the 21st century. With all of that, we’re incredibly excited to be offering these exquisite and highly sought-after instruments here in Dubai.
