Take It From The Top

In 1981, Gibson introduced the Chet Atkins CE and CEC models, which allowed feedback-free classical playing at amplified stage volumes. These solidbody classical guitars were the first of the now-popular ‘crossover’ classical instruments. Frenquently found on Latin music stages, where the responsiveness and expression of the nylon string works perfectly, this instrument is the perfect nylon string guitar for live performance, especially if you like it loud. You can turn it up to cut through the mix with lots of tone and no feedback.

The Gibson Chet Atkins CE and CEC models are nearly identical, with the primary differences being the fingerboard material (rosewood or ebony) and the nut width – 1.75 inch on the CE and a full, ‘standard classical’ 2 inches on the CEC. They use a multi-element piezo bridge pickup with a battery-powered preamp that balances the output. Mark Knopfler famously used it during the Brothers in Arms tour in 1985-1986

Special Features

The body is made from solid mahogany and features sound chambers to reduce weight and to make the sound more acoustic. The top is solid spruce or cedar, while the pickup system consists of six individual piezos that are installed under the bridge. This model has three controls: Volume, Treble and Bass. Additionally, you can actually amend the output for each string individually, by adjusting one of the six trim pots located inside the control cavity!
